Welcome to the GPO Café and Rooms Leith, a smart and stylish 3-star hotel and a fantastic café set in Edinburgh’s most soulful and vibrant quarter. You’ll recognise the big red door as you approach the grand old Leith Post Office building, now beautifully renovated and themed to honour its long history, and you’ll be delighted with the buzzing Shore area and easy access to all of Edinburgh’s best attractions. You’ll be thrilled with the value too because we’ve thought about how to keep it real in amongst the heritage listed wonder that is Edinburgh!

Choose from premium local Scottish craft Beers from Innis & Gunn, Thistly Cross Cider, Scottish Gin – Pickerings, Caorunn, Hendricks or Edinburgh Gin served with Scottish Bon Accord tonic or if you prefer Wine by the glass or bottle, chilled sodas, and fresh fruit juices are also available.

An easy ride from the city centre, where you’ll discover the historic Old Town and Edinburgh Castle, the GPO Café and Rooms Leith is also a short walk from The Royal Yacht Britannia and the Docks nightlife making it a great base to explore the city or to kick off a fun-filled weekend with friends.

Of course a welcome isn’t a welcome without a friendly face and a warm smile to greet you. Our staff want your visit to be great. If you are checking in they’ll make you a cuppa and help you set off in the right direction so you can get out into Edinburgh quickly and in the morning head to the café for a full Scottish breakfast or we have vegan and veggie options too!

If you are staying with us, of course we want you to be as comfortable as possible and to get the most out of the Café GPO like our locals do, but we wouldn’t blame you for wanting to explore this fantastic maritime part of Edinburgh that has a culture of its own. You can follow the famous Sunshine on Leith map, but you won’t need it to get started as the first stops, Nobles Bar and the Port O’Leith pub, are just across the road.

Exploring Edinburgh? You are in the right spot with Edinburgh Old Town sites, New Town shopping, the Waters of Leith, Stockbridge and the Dean and Modern Galleries, Portobello, the docks and The Royal Yacht Britannia at each point of the compass and direct walking, bus or taxi routes to all.

Coming by car? Parking around the GPO is free and unrestricted which is a fantastic bonus!

Train: Allow 10 minutes by taxi from Waverley Station.

Airport: take the tram to York Place at the top of Leith Walk, no.12 Lothian bus or taxi to Constitution St (allow an hour), or taxi (allow 30-50 minutes).

EDINBURGH TRAM WORKS DISRUPTION NOTICE

As part of the Trams to Newhaven construction works, in order to enable pedestrian access given the narrow layout of Constitution Street and because the road is closed to traffic, and there will be no on-street parking during construction. 

Diversion routes and advanced warning signs are in place in the vicinity for information and direction. 

To access GPO by public transport: 

Take buses nr 16, 22, 35, 36 to “The Shore” bus stop, hotel is just a 5min walk away if you follow the map towards Constitution Street. 

From the bus stop, follow the Broad Wynd street away from the river, turn right to Water St, take first left to Maritime Ln and follow it until you see roadworks and GPO building across the road with the bright red door. 

To access GPO by car: 

Arrive via Mitchell St, please be aware there is no parking on Mitchell St available due to it being the main access street in the area; unloading and short stops are allowed. Parking is available on the other streets nearby, please follow the signage available.
